Herbs for the Fall – by Caitlin Rushton, LMT
In the fall season, we are more prone to illness, which means we need to focus on nourishing our bodies, especially the lungs. Our lungs are delicate and we are constantly taking in a wide array of environmental toxins. Learning which natural herbs help to nourish and build your lungs and body helps tremendously during this seasonal transition. Echinacea is an amazing herb, it’s a little bit pungent, but its antimicrobial properties make it ideal for preventing/defeating the common cold and flu by supporting a system detox of the lungs, skin, and lymph nodes. Astragalus is a sweet herb known for building your immune system, while also strengthening your lungs. Linden leaf and Flower also has a sweet taste to it, this herb is an antispasmodic and cough reducer, as a demulcent helping to relieve inflammation or irritation. The demulcent and astringent properties are perfect for excessive dryness, adding moisture and tightens, toning the tissues and holding moisture in. Last on the list is Mullein Leaf, with its sweet and salty taste. This herb is great for relaxing and soothing sore lungs.
These herbs are featured in some of our in-house Wisely Living Products, tailored specifically for the Fall season. Our Inspiration Tea has both Linden Leaf and Mullein, Immune-Tea Chai has Astragalus, and our Immunity Invigorator Tincture has Astragalus and Echinacea.
