Want to quit smoking cigarettes? By Heather Wisely L.Ac.
In the deep months of the inversion here in Salt Lake many people really struggle with breathing and smoking nicotine during the inversion can be really taxing on the lungs. If you have tried to quit smoking or have just thought about it, try smoking different herbs for your health to come off the nicotine! There are many herbs that you can smoke to replace nicotine while you are breaking the habit.
Mullein – mullein is mildly relaxing and inhaling the smoke can bring the healing medicine directly to your lungs and throat.
Damiana – commonly smoked as an aphrodisiac and relaxant. It is a little harsh on the throat, so we recommend blending it with other herbs. This herb is not recommended for people with diabetes, history of breast cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or other psychiatric disorders.
Mugwort – relaxing and enhances dreams. It’s a little smoother on the throat and can be blended or smoked on its own. This herb should not be taken by lactating women.
Skullcap – the most sedating and calming of these herbs. This can be helpful for calming nervous energy and settling into sleep. This herb should not be over used and should be avoided by people with liver disease and pregnant and lactating women.
